The Power of Positive Thinking

Not everyone believes in the power of positive thinking. Some say it’s just a lot of hocus pocus, neither here nor there. Even among those who believe that positive thinking has power, a lot do not know how to use it. Still, the subject continues to command a lot of attention in modern discusses.

More books are being written about the subject now than ever before, in addition to lectures and seminars. Positive thinking is no doubt gaining in popularity. It must surely be worth your while to give it serious thoughts.

Positive thinking is a mental outlook that sees good in every situation. The positive thinker only admits to their mind thoughts, words, and mental images that are conducive to growth and personal success.

It is a mental disposition whereby the thinker decidedly expects good and favorable outcome from his endeavors. A positive mind anticipates happiness, good health, successful business dealings, and satisfaction.

The major thing I want to share with you here is that this mental attitude has a way of making any of these expectations to come true for a person. It is an undeniable fact that the way we approach issues largely depends on how we judge the likely outcome of the issue.

A single lady who’s in a relationship that she believes isn’t heading anywhere will naturally handle such a relationship without seriousness. And predictably the relationship will soon wither away. It is often said that what the mind expects, it finds.

There is this story of two young women who applied for a job. We’ll call them Ruth and Ann. They are both equally educated to the level required by the firm. But Ruth suffers from low self-esteem and never sees anything good about herself. And she has a negative attitude toward things generally.

This she carried into the job application. Even before the job interview, she had already concluded that other applicants were better qualified than her, and that there was no way she would get the job.

Her preparation for the job interview reflected this mindset. She woke up late, and then discovered that the dress she planned to wear had stains—the others were not ironed. She wore one of the scruffy dresses and went for the interview anyway.

Again she answered the interview questions with an I-know-you’ve-rejected-me attitude. Expectedly she didn’t get the job. But where did the failure originate? In her mind!
Contrast that with Ann who also is qualified for the job. Gomez believed she stood as much chance as everyone else, and that with a little bit of extra efforts she might even have an edge over the other applicants. And she set out to do just that.

She got her clothes ready the day before the interview, went to bed a little earlier, and visualized the interview questions and her possible answers. She got to the venue before the scheduled time.

She already imagined herself impressing the interview panel. And that she did and got the job. Again, where did the final outcome start? In her mind!

This story should also serve to inform opponents of positive thinking that the concept doesn’t really encourage wishful thinking and daydreaming. Far from it: What positive thinking does is to provide us with mental energy to work in the direction of the positive things we visualize for ourselves.

The opposite is also true if we allow our minds to visualize only negative outcomes. So either way, human thoughts have power.
Which way would you use your mental powers?

A Les Brown Review The Man Behind the Myth

Les Brown is one of the world’s top motivational speakers. As motivational speakers go, few come any more inspirational than Les brown. Ever since he dusted his own less-than flattering childhood, his life and his speeches have inspired not a few persons to put their past behind them and step into a life of triumph and confidence and of contribution to the human race.

Les is a firm believer that we all have locked within each of us the ways and means to unbelievable achievements. And if you ever listened to any of his speeches, you’ll agree that he has taken it upon himself to set as many people as would make themselves available on the road to achieving more than they ever dared to imagine. If you peep into his background you’ll understand why this guy thinks the way he does.

Les Brown was one of twin boys born to a mother who didn’t want them because their birth was to reveal the shame of her illicit affair. She went to great lengths to hide their birth; first, she gave birth to them in an uncompleted building.

And when that didn’t quite hide the secret, she arranged to have them adopted within their first month of life by a woman who herself was an unmarried domestic staff. Though the woman showed the young Brown lots of kindness and instilled some self-belief in him, his checkered childhood was always going to take a toll on him—for a while.

During his adolescent years he was gradually gaining a reputation for being an unruly and mischievous child. He had problems concentrating, and was soon labeled “retarded.” And he lived true to that label—until someone gave him another one!

To all intents and purposes, it was LeRoy Washington who redirected Les Brown’s course in life. LeRoy was quoted to have told Brown that “someone’s opinion of you does not have to become your reality.”
That statement was to change Les Brown’s approach to life forever.

It was like a release from the mental fetters with which he had been hoodwinked for years. Having learned that empowerment comes from within, Les’ life was never going to be the same again. The former city sanitation worker steadily worked his way to the Ohio state legislature.

Then a chance meeting with Zig Ziglar, the great motivational speaker finally inspired Les Brown to harness his own public speaking skills. At the time, neither Les nor anybody who knew him thought he could make a great public speaker.

But as he said in one of his books “life takes on new meaning when you become motivated.” Les Brown’s foray and eventual success in public and motivational speaking owes more to the power of motivation than anything else.

His speaking career eventually blossomed and he began to speak to larger and larger audiences, including Fortune 500 companies.

So what can you learn from this great orator and motivator? Personally I have identified two key lessons we all can learn from Les Brown’s life and career: (1) Do not operate your life with a manual handed to you by others.

Simply put, do not allow people’s opinion of you to determine how you approach life and what you attempt in life. (2) Les Brown’s personal life and career achievements also prove that with the right Motivation And Inspiration, each one of us can go much further in life than where our family circumstances and environment left us. Now, that should be very liberating, don’t you agree?

Napoleon Hill in his book ” Think And Grow Rich” shows the Power of the mind and it’s role in creating your Desired Financial Wealth. The influence of the subconscious mind has long remained a hot topic in the world of motivational speaking and self improvement. But it is only in recent years that science has proved that this power is real and repeatable.

Thanks in part to the awareness created in this regard by the book “The Secret,” it is now no longer in doubt that a person can attract greater wealth, health and better relationships to oneself by simply understanding and using the power of the subconscious mind.

Fortunately this power is part of the wonderful gift of free will that the creator has so generously endowed us with. It means that no matter what has happened or is happening right now in your life, you can choose to condition your thoughts on a constant basis to attract your desired outcome.

This point becomes all the more clearer when we examine the life of most successful persons. Several of them have at one time or the other lost virtually everything they possessed and had to start all over. And they became successful yet again. Pure luck? No, luck doesn’t work that way, anymore than lightening could strike the same location twice in quick succession!

Successful, wealthy people possess a set of mental conditioning, a subconscious attitude that pervades their entire life. It isn’t so much about their approach to their business as it is about their attitude toward the things they do.

Otherwise why is it that after reading the biographies and business methods of many successful people, most people are still unable to reproduce the achievements of these successful individuals?

What this means is that if you desire success in anything you do, prior to hard work, your primary task is to program your subconscious mind to think success and prosperity. Approaching life and business in this manner reduces frustration and too much struggle. And it becomes only a matter of time before your actions and thinking habits begin to produce outcomes that are consistent with that thought pattern.

In both business and everything else, those who take action are the ones who see results. Along with proper planning and the drive to succeed, taking action ranks very high among those important pieces of the success puzzle.

So there can be no doubt about it, taking action is clearly important if you’re ever going to realize those grand dreams you’ve nurtured about your business. Otherwise they remain just that—dreams!
But that is not to say that taking action is always easy.

Even after you’ve thoroughly planned the business approach and all, you may still find yourself putting off the take-off date. Quite often, what is lacking is the will, or the motivation to START.

And that’s where you need to work on: the will or the boldness to press the START button within you. There are ways to overcome that challenge. Here are three ways to motivate yourself to take action and to continue taking more action.

Break Things Down:

It’s all very easy and even human to feel overwhelmed by the sheer size of task at hand and the sheer amount of time and energy a person needs to muster to be able to tackle them. It becomes even more paralyzing when the task appears to be long-drawn and cumbersome.

When a task looks that way, we often tell ourselves it’s too much work and that we don’t have the time available to begin and finish them. And quite frankly, you may never really have that kind of time!

The solution? Break the tasks down into smaller bits that the mind can easily sub-consciously size up and tackle. Break the major goal into series of smaller steps or milestones that are achievable within a few hours or at most a day. That way, things will appear manageable.

And what normally happens is that the moment you achieve each little identifiable task, your confidence and momentum builds which further spurs you on to embark on the next task, thus taking more action!

And you’ll surely agree that each time you accomplish any task related to your goal, the ultimate goal appears to draw nearer, which again encourages you to go on.

Take Away Distractions:

There are surely things or persons that cause the most distractions. They differ from person to person. For some, television programs may be it, while for others their worst distracters are close friends and family members. You know what it is in your own case. So stay away from such factors—especially at the time you should be doing something related to your business goal.

If you work from home, this may be hard to do, which is one reason those who can afford it rent some cheap office space away from home. But if your current budget can’t accommodate that, then you may be able to reach an accord with those in your house to leave you out of discussions at certain times of the day—while at the same time you also discipline yourself to resist the TV and needless web-surfing.

Fight Lethargy:

Yes, there are times when you feel like you can lift up and touch the sky! Conversely, there are also times when your performance and your motivation level clearly go into a slump. Don’t lie low until the sluggish spell fades away

There are some steps you can take to re-motivate and energize yourself. A brisk walk and similar forms of exercise can often send fresh oxygen into your brain and help you to begin thinking clearly once again. And that will make you feel inclined to taking action and doing your work.

It has often been said that we should work ourselves into feeling like doing something rather than waiting until we feel like doing it. It often works out that when a person continues to do something towards the accomplishment of their cherished dreams, they usually find the motivation along the way to continue going until the goal is realized. So if you want your dreams to become a reality, continue to take purposeful action.

How to Achieve True Fulfillment and Contentment

Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs ranks self-actualization (another name for true fulfillment) at the peak of human desires. And I am inclined to agree with Mr. Maslow. True fulfillment and contentment are two goals that should cap all our achievements. For without them, the question should logically arise: to what end were all those struggles? As it is, true fulfillment is one objective everyone yearns to have in their life. But very few people end up having it. What is the secret? There are no secrets at all—just truths, universal truths and principles that surround us.

They only appear hidden from us because they are things a person can only see when one is ready to see them. The law is oh so simple, which is one reason many people overlook it.

The “secret” to having true fulfillment and contentment lies with following the things YOU really believe in and taking actions everyday to make your vision come true. Bear in mind that the emphasis is not so much on the dream itself as it is on what it means to you.

Because there isn’t only one way to self-fulfillment. What brings one person immense joy and deep satisfaction may not mean a thing to another person. And therein lays the problem: many people look for contentment and personal fulfillment with the prism that belongs to someone else! No, it ought to be idiosyncratic—unique to each individual.

So the first task before each of us, really, is to identify what it is that is most important to us. What are those goals that their attainment will ultimately give you the most happiness and ultimate fulfillment in your life? In truth, this is not too difficult to identify.

In our sub-conscious mind, there’s always one central thing we all yearn to be or to do. There’s always a thought deep down somewhere in our mind of where we want to be or what we want to be.

But what happens is that in the rush to meet unending commitments and deadlines on a daily basis, most persons spend little or no time at all focusing on the things that are truly meaningful to them.

At the end of the day, when many achieve the common goal that most persons are pursuing—higher education, good job, big cars, big houses, and maybe even lots of money— they discover that there’s still an emptiness inside. The happiness and contentment they craved still elude them.

True fulfillment and contentment will only come when a person pursues and achieves what matters most to them—and they are achievable.

So really, as far as contentment and fulfillment are concerned, the major challenge facing each person is to clearly identify what dreams or goals they wish to achieve.

The more we focus our powerful thoughts on our goals and dreams, the closer we get to realizing them. On the other hand, each day spent not following your dreams and goals only serves to take you further away from ultimate happiness.

In the end, the process isn’t really complicated, or is it? The major thing to bear in mind is that you have the right to choose exactly what you want out of life. And in making this decision, do not be guided by what everyone else is chasing.

Most people are chasing shadows, and that’s why most people are not happy. Join the few who have identified what is important to them. Follow your innermost thoughts. Then rest assured that true fulfillment and contentment is within your reach.

The dust is yet to settle on a recent Dr. Benny Morris seminar organized by the man popularly known as “Dr. Encouragement.” The man behind the name, Dr. Benny Morris is a celebrated name in public speaking and business training.

He’s been training and teaching people success principles for over 20 years. His online training and coaching sessions are among the most popular in the internet community. It is no wonder that when news filtered in that he was organizing a seminar at Tampa, Florida, quite a number of business owners re-arranged their schedules to be there in person.

Employing stories, analogies, and objective lessons, Dr. Morris helped his audience to break many of the barriers that have been holding them back from reaching their full potentials. He harped on the need to stay focused and to watch your set of beliefs.

Personally, I can’t agree more with Dr. Morris on nearly all of the lessons he taught the audience. Talking about beliefs, the thing about them is that most times, we do not consciously decide what we believe—“I’m just not cut out to be a high achiever,” “I don’t have what it takes,” “this is as far as I can go” ”I will never understand this” “I just can’t change who I am.” Who told you that? Another thing about beliefs is that once adopted, we often forget their real interpretation.

And that often leads to wrong application of these handed-down beliefs. Unfortunately, unless there’s a sound basis for the set of beliefs you cling to, they may well be sabotaging your efforts much more than you realize. In other words, you may well be operating your life or your business with a manual designed for someone else.

What it all means, as Dr. Morris pointed out, is that we should occasionally challenge some of the beliefs we hold. That way we’ll be able to break through our self-limiting beliefs.

The inability to stay focused is another frequent cause of business failures. A lot of people, especially new entrepreneurs are so easily distracted by the promise of another “great opportunity,” or they easily get discouraged when initial expectations are taking too long to materialize.

Either case, they stop implementing their business plans and start looking for another easier opportunity. Unfortunately there’s none out there. The next opportunity, like the present one, will still require you to stay focused and work your plan.

Of course many people complain that they were not born or blessed with the ability to focus. I find it hard to understand what that means. What I know is that everyone is born with an emotion called fear.

In itself, fear is not bad—at least it protects us from dangers or unnecessary risks. But given free reign, fear can also prevent a person from taking the actions that are necessary for success.

And when people easily give up give on opportunities, unknown to them, they are driven by the fear of failure: they fear that if they continue on that line, they’ll fail. Ironically, it is the inability to stay focused that ultimately results is failure!

Dr. Morris drove home the point that if anyone wants to be successful, the person must get focused and take the actions needed to achieve success. Quoting Tony Robbins, Dr. Morris said “if you can’t, you must.” Enough said, Doctor!

I can only suggest that if Dr. Morris happens to organize another seminar near your area, you’ll be doing yourself a lot of good if you attend. Lots of life and business lessons await you.

Jim Rohn: An Objective Review

Jim Rohn was my mentor for many years through his works. A lot has been written and said about the man Jim Rohn during his lifetime, but most especially since his demise.

Expectedly most of what has been said had portrayed him in good light. But a few had dwelt on negativity.

So I decided to look more closely into the life and times of this celebrated businessman and motivational speaker to see if there’s more than meets the eye in either direction. Here are my findings.

Jim Rohn had become a household name in business training and motivational speaking long before his death. With over 6000 direct audiences and nearly 4 million followers worldwide, his popularity has hardly come as a surprise. And if you add the over 25 different works he had authored, you’ll begin to see why the name rings a bell.

Background checks revealed that the man himself was born around the middle of the last century to an Idaho farming family. He had a rather quite childhood and a checkered early adulthood. He wasn’t even really educated—dropping out of college in the first year.

At about 25 years of age, it was looking like he would live and die on a low profile note. But just then, he met the legendary John E. Shaoff, a very successful businessman and philosopher of sorts. Mr. Shaoff’s accomplishments, philosophy in life and sheer charisma soon began to rub of on Jim Rohn.

After joining John Shaoff’s direct sales business, Jim Rohn’s path to greatness got fast tracked. At age 31 he was already a millionaire. And the rest, as they say, is history.

Or, is it really history? Not when numerous successful salespeople and other business owners around us owe their own success stories to some of the life lessons taught by Jim Rohn. It is well known that he was very instrumental in launching the careers of sales and public speaking celebrities like Tony Robbins, Brian Tracy, and Les Brown.

In my opinion, his greatest contribution to the human race remains his philosophies for success—especially his emphasis on mental and physical discipline. He repeatedly taught, and rightly too, that both success and failures don’t happen by chance, and they do not happen overnight.

To Jim Rohn, success is a result of small steps (or as he calls it, small disciplines) conducted everyday for a sufficient period of time. Failure on other hand is the end result of not doing enough for a long time or doing too little for too long. Doesn’t your personal observation support that?

Here is my summary of Jim Rohn’s guiding philosophy: There is danger in looking at one undisciplined day and concluding that no great harm has been done. For, when you add up those days to make a year, and add up those years to make a lifetime, it will become obvious that repeating today’s small failures will easily turn a person’s life into a major disaster!

I allow this reasoning to guide the way I approach everything I do. I try not to take anything for granted and I do not underestimate the impact that seemingly little steps can have over time.

Jim Rohn sure means different things to different persons. But to me, his high work ethics, strong sense of discipline and observable commitment to groom others for success are traits every mentor and follower needs to cultivate. HAVE THE BEST YEAR EVER!

5 Common Reasons People Quit Their MLM Business

The idea of building your own MLM or Online business will not stop being attractive to people. Unfortunately only a few of those striking it out on their own by way of starting an MLM business will ever see the results they dreamed of.

Meanwhile most people after attending a seminar and hearing about the huge earnings of certain distributors, they get registered with the hope of making mega bucks in a matter of weeks. And when this unrealistic expectation doesn’t happen, they quit.

Bad Mentorship: there are those whose failure in MLM is traceable to what they were taught (or not taught) by their uplines. Suppose a person is told that all he needed to do was get registered and recruit their first set of downlines who will do same thing and so on.

What happens when, as it often happens, these first set of downlines are not truly committed to building a home business? We both know the answer. In the end, the person gets discouraged and quits.

They Let Rejection Get to Them: not everyone you talk to will want to join your business opportunity. Indeed many will actually ridicule your efforts at starting a business. But that need not deter you. A tennis player doesn’t necessarily have to win every set to win the game.

You can still succeed in MLM even if many who you talk to reject the idea. At least a few will accept to join you if you continue to prospect. And the numbers will eventually add up. Those who expect only favorable responses often get discouraged when many reject their proposal. Then they quit.

The Absence of an Overriding Objective or Goal: why do you want to start a home business in the first place? Anybody who can not give an enthusiastic answer to this question will not last long in MLM.

The thing is that your determination to continue will be stronger if you have a specific reason and a burning desire for starting a home business.

Employee Mentality: what most people don’t realize is that to succeed in MLM you’ll have to begin to think like an entrepreneur. This involves learning how to market products and how to relate with people.

It also involves a willingness to make sacrifices for the sake of your business—working odd hours and investing money into the business rather than spending it on personal comfort. But many come into MLM with all their employee baggage intact. Then the business fails to click. And then they quit.

Sure we can identify a few more reasons why people quit their MLM. But the aim here is not to impress you with a long list of dos and don’ts. Just work on the 5 most crucial areas identified in this article, and I assure you that you will be able nurture your MLM business to prosperity.

Any situation you’ve once faced and successfully overcome no longer scares you. Isn’t that true? But it is also true that if fear holds you back from taking action, every little hindrance will continue to wear a big shadow, appearing like a huge obstacle.

Because not dealing with issues that you are unable or unwilling to face invariably causes complexity and stress to you and your balance in life. So now the choice is yours, really.

Another tested method for overcoming fears is talking your fears over with someone who truly cares about your feelings. But note that the emphasis is, not on who you talk to, but on talking out your fears at all.

Yes, it’s been proven that simply talking about fears reduces their effects on a person. The thing is that the moment you openly discuss your worst fears with someone, the fears begins to appear less intimidating.

Confronting one’s fears can be tough. But doing so brings many rich rewards. For every small part of your fear that you conquer, new opportunities will suddenly spring up where obstacles previously existed.

So really, by you taking action in spite of your fears means that you can give yourself a fair chance to succeed in any endeavor that you take on.
