Are you afraid to call your MLM leads? Does that little communication device scare you to death? Are you so scared of picking up the phone to call prospects? Or do you sometimes actually pick the phone up, dial a number and then suddenly begin to wish that the recipient does not pick the call up?

Yet, we spend almost all our waking hours chattering away on the phone—while sitting in meetings, standing in line, at grocery stores, in the car (a risky habit, though), at concerts and ball games—virtually everywhere. Living without the loop or its wireless version is a fate worse than death for some.

So what’s all these cry from small business owners and customer service representatives that they hate to make phone calls? Surely this is not the rare medical condition known as telephobia—a psychological situation in which a person experiences extreme fear of making use of the telephone.

The people we are discussing here are afraid of something else; they fear being rejected, being interrupted, they fear appearing as unorganized, they also fear not having an answer to a follow-up question.

These are the major reasons most small business owners get scared of picking up the phone to call prospective customers. Is there a cure for this type of phobia? The fact that we have laid our fingers on their causes means that there are sure ways to eliminate every one of these fears.

But let’s begin by pointing out that the telephone is a very essential offline tool for promoting your business. It is easily the most effective way to build a relationship with a prospect or customers.

Some persons have built massive followership and customer base within a relatively short time simply as a result of knowing how to use the telephone to engage prospects and customers. Conversely, so many businesses have become rationalized and crippled due to a failure to use the phone proficiently.

That said, what specific steps can you take to conquer the fear of calling prospects on phone?

Let’s say your fear is that you will be rejected. You have to face the facts here: in sales, you often have to be rejected many times before you will finally be accepted. But the mere fact that you will eventually be accepted ought to drive you on.

It is the way it has happened to all the great sales people you hear about today. Their grand strategy which should become yours today is to make so many calls so as to average a couple positive responses in a day or a week.

Or do you fear that your prospect will interrupt while you speak and thus derail your delivery? The solution to this is simple: do not prepare a script to be read out to a prospect. Instead prepare and rehearse a conversation.

That way, if there is an ‘interruption’, you can easily glide over it and continue with the discussion. Indeed, I prefer not to describe a prospect’s contributions or questions as interruptions. Don’t they have a right to speak? Only their contributions make the sales talk meaningful. Otherwise you can not tell what is on their mind if you monopolize the discussion.

Are you afraid the prospect will ask a follow-up question you can not answer? I have two things to tell you here, (1) no one is expected to know everything about everything, and (2) you have the opportunity to learn new things everyday.

The difference lies in how you pause for time to come up with the information a prospect may ask for. That is what separates the professionals from the fretful.

So even when a prospect asks a question whose answer you don not readily have, stay composed. In your own words, say something like “that is a really good question, could you spare a minute while I verify that for you, or may I call you back?” or you could say something like “no one has asked me that question before.

Do you mind if I look into it on your behalf and get back to you in a couple of minutes?” Every manner of prospects and customers would rather give you a few minutes or more to look into their questions than have you hazard a guess that soon fails to hold water.

If you are a business owner, the telephone is your friend. Do not treat it as an enemy. Follow the tips I have offered you here and you will soon discover that your reasons for not calling those prospects are a bit exaggerated.

Set Specific Goals For Your Business: Little is ever accomplished in life without definite goals. So what do you want to accomplish with your home business? Is it to save up for yours or your children’s college education? A new car, home, or a new set of furniture?

Write these down and set tentative dates when you would want to have achieved them. Then determine what heights your business must attain before you can afford these things. Tracey Walker’s success story in network marketing is as inspirational as it is educative. Here’s a lady whose success has added to what we’ve always been told but which most have refused to accept, namely, to make a real impact in network marketing, you must learn from those who’ve been doing it well. Period. Anything else will only amount to gambling with your money and time.

Does Your Spouse Opposes Your Home Business

If your spouse or partner is in full support of your home business, good luck to you. However, situations where a spouse is opposed to (or at least non-supportive of) our MLM business is more common than some of us may think.

And the reasons range from the cynical to the fairly reasonable—jealousy, time and financial commitments, fear of failure, etc. Because most sufferers of spousal non-support are women (especially housewives), we’ll look at this issue from their standpoint.

Rather cynically, some husbands fear that their wife may go on to achieve real success with their business and thus supplant them (the husbands) as the family’s bread winner. With their income suddenly becoming a supplementary one in the house, some husbands feel threatened and may thus resist a wife’s home business efforts .Isn’t that thinking queer?

But more realistically, some husbands who oppose their wife’s attempts at a home business do so on the basis of past experience. What sort of support do you expect from a husband who has failed severally at home business opportunities?

With all the good intentions, he may try to discourage you from an activity which in his opinion will only take all your time and other resources and yield nothing in the end.

Then there’s the issue of money. It’s hard enough to get your husband’s full consent on your spending your own money on a venture he’s not sure will succeed. But you may be asking for too much if you also ask him to fund the venture with his personal earnings!

The matter becomes even knottier if the family is already on a tight budget. We know you’re going into this thing in order to be able to help out with the family’s finances, but at this point, it’s hard for him to appreciate that, or for you to convince him.

And we haven’t even talked about how the business is going to affect the family’s time—such as for shopping and other outings. These too form part of the reasons some husbands resist.

The reasons are many and varied. But the good news is that things can often be worked out—that is, if there weren’t any pre-existing atmosphere of mutual hostility in the house!

You only have to start by finding out why your spouse is negative towards your home business. What are his SPECIFIC fears? Is it money, or the particular type of MLM you’re going into? Does he fear that his bread-winner status is threatened? Getting things out in the open makes it easier for you to deal with them effectively.

For example, if your husband fears that your efforts will end in failure (probably speaking from his own experience), the onus will now be on you to prove how serious you are about building a successful business.

Tell your spouse how you’ve spent time gaining business knowledge, learning the different aspects of the business you’re going into. He may possibly see what he did or didn’t do that you’re doing differently. And you’ll win him over without a fight!

Similarly, if your spouse is afraid that your MLM business will eat up family time—and that you probably will no longer perform your duties as a wife or mother, you can allay his fears. Demonstrate how you’ve organized your work in such a way that it won’t adversely affect family outings and others.

You could explain that when the business starts bringing in more money, you plan to hire someone to take care of things so you could take vacations with the family once in a while.

What about money concerns? There are two ways to handle this: (1) explain to your spouse matter-of-factly that you’re going into this venture primarily to improve the family’s financial situation. And yes, you’ll need some financial support to get started. After all, it often takes money to make more money. Most spouses will appreciate their partners’ concern for the family.

But what if your spouse is understandably concerned that supporting your MLM financially would mean missing a few bill payments? That could be tough.

But then you have the next option: (2) make some changes in your own personal spending, and carefully budget home expenses.

This will surely involve some sacrifices on your part. But giving up a few things will often spin off a few extra dollars to enable you run your business without disrupting the family’s budget.

It surely can be frustrating when your spouse does not support your home-business efforts. But this can be overcome. Communicating openly and tactfully with your spouse can often melt this ice of resistance by helping you identify and address his fears.

Is it really worth it to spend your money on coaching and mentoring? Why don’t you just go to the library or do a Google search on anything you need to know concerning your MLM business?

In these days of the internet it could surely be tempting to think that we don’t really need anyone to sit us down and explain the best ways to approach our business.

There’s this prevailing but deceptive notion that virtually anything we need to know to succeed in any activity is just a few clicks of the mouse away. Oh yea? So how many persons have leaned how to play golf, drive a car, or fly a plane by reading a magazine? Wake up folks, we DO need mentors!

Have you ever paused to think about what life would be like without teachers—I mean the very first teachers in our academic life? Don’t you agree it would have been so difficult getting to learn the alphabet all by ourselves?

We would probably have begun to learn the basics of ABC and some arithmetic in our late teens! Thank God for teachers and mentors.
They help point us in the right direction, guiding and teaching us things we need to know in order for us to succeed in our various endeavors.

But for them, the only other option would’ve been to grope in the dark for long periods trying to figure things out through trial and error. The problem with that approach is, it would take far more time to know what works compared with having a mentor who already knows the ‘road map.’

So unless we are plain egotistical, it has to be admitted that having a business mentor provides us with numerous benefits. First, mentors are far more experienced than we are. They have probably been in the same industry you’re now just venturing into.

So they have gained a wide range of experiences and insights that could considerably help cut your learning curve. Additionally, they have made their own share of mistakes in trying to implement certain aspects of the business, which means they can help us take the better path and avoid committing mistakes that they have already made.

Simply put, they are in a position to tell you what works and what doesn’t. It is only the course of wisdom to leverage on such foreknowledge rather than insisting on making and learning from your own blunders.

Remember you may not be alive long enough and or be patient long enough to make all your mistakes in business! Many do give up out of frustration.

There’s yet another reason why mentors are worth having: due to their wealth of experience, length of time and accomplishments in the business, they will most likely have a wide network of people whose interests and industry experience you could further tap into.

You surely need a wide network of people if your MLM business must grow. Some of these people may become your target clients, or others who could be in a position to help spread your marketing messages to others who may be interested in your line of business.

Not to be overlooked too is the role that mentors play in motivating us. They can help you to keep things in perspective, by helping you make sense of some things that might probably have overwhelmed you.

Mentors also inspire their students, helping them to stay on track and achieve what some students never thought they were capable of achieving.

Yes, in the end, how far you succeed in your MLM business will owe a lot to your own Personal Growth efforts, especially your determination and self-discipline. But mentors provide valuable guidance that can make your path smoother.

If you’re an author, or an article writer by any other description, you are no doubt interested in techniques that will increase your article production. But of even greater importance is how to improve the quality of the articles you write.

Start Early In the Day: Early birds are still fortunate! I’ve personally discovered that starting my writing early in the day trumps both lunchtime and after-dinner efforts.

I’ve observed that I’m more productive at that time of day, and I guess that shouldn’t be hard to imagine. For one thing, the brain has just rested and is now primed for new challenges.

As a result, creative thinking and imagination are at their peaks just after a good night’s rest. Now those are my thoughts. But I guess I’m not alone. It’s a well documented fact that many successful professional writers and authors get an early start with their writing.

Many start to write as early as 5:00 or 6:00am, with nearly all already at their writing desk by 8:00 am. As I pointed out earlier, an early morning writing time allows your freshly-rested mind to jump-start your writing day with quick ideas.

Starting your writing task early in the day is also important for yet another reason: if you do most of your writing from home whereby quite or private moments are rare, that would be an added reason to begin your writing task early in the day. Such early morning sessions will help you accomplish more long before the hustle and bustle of the family’s day gets underway.

Choose a Distraction-Free Environment: Although a noted author, J.K. Rowling reportedly once wrote at a coffee shop, still your best bet is to imitate most professional writers who often deliberately seek out isolated and quite places to do their writing. Prolific author, Stephen King, for example usually writes at the lonely loft of his home, sometimes for days or even weeks away from public view.

I don’t know how you, a budding writer could do a better job than the masters of the art if you choose to write at the market square! The thing is that writing quality articles is challenging enough in its own right—you don’t want to be dealing with self-sabotage at the same time by exposing yourself to distractions. Imitate successful writers, apply tested techniques.

No matter what you think, it’s near-impossible to produce a tidy, in-depth and authoritative piece of writing of any sort with the phones ringing or message alerts constantly popping up, people chattering and puttering all around you. Personally I write in a quite, private part of the house, away from my wife and kid, and certainly devoid of phones and visitors.

Bottom line is, when you write in a tranquil place, you accomplish more. At the moment, I seriously doubt that J.K. Rowling still writes the continuing editions of Harry Potter and Friends in a coffee shop or any other public place!

If you take these points to heart and apply them in your article writing schedule, you’ll almost certainly see an increase in the quality and depth of your articles. It will also boost your production rate.

It could mean better relationships, a more physically fit and healthier you, a better manager of time and other resources, etc. The gains are virtually endless.

Now what are some ways you can invest in your personal growth?
Personal Growth can actually refer to a long list of different aspects of you. The aim should be for you to be aware of your current performance or abilities, and to become determined to work on improving at them over time. View every experience you encounter as an opportunity to improve on what you are.

For example, if you are a network marketer, have you observed that you are naturally shy when approaching a client on phone or when you have to address a large audience? If you do that, the fear and anxiety will be reduced at the next opportunity. If you do that often, you’ll soon conquer your fears and begin to impress friends, colleagues, and clients.

But if you accept your failures and do nothing about it, the weakness will live with you and continue to rob you of business opportunities.
Even unfortunate incidents can be turned into opportunities to reflect and improve ourselves.

Generally you should train your mind to always be alert to opportunities to do things better. And rather than leaving it to chance, you can actually go out of your way to get some specific training and mentoring in the areas you wish to improve.

Books are also great sources of inspiration and lessons. In the same vein, you could also join business associations or take coaching classes.

The efforts you put into developing yourself will pay off handsomely. You’ll become better at whatever you’re doing; you’ll be ahead of the pack. Improving yourself will easily reflect on your general outlook and confidence level, which will attract people to you. And if you’re a network marketer, you know how important this last thought is!

In MLM, You Must Brand Yourself Online!

It doesn’t matter what products or services you’re promoting; as long as it is done by way of Multi-Level Marketing, and especially if it is marketed online, you must brand yourself as someone who wants to be of help to people. You must be an expert, or at least act like one.

People want to work with those who care about their success. In network marketing, we are basically looking for people who need help so we can offer to help them. This is the only way to approach the business if you hope to attract willing customers.

Network marketing involves getting people, training them to do the things you do well, and helping them achieve the goals they’ve set for themselves. It’s now been proven that it’s not your MLM company, or your products, or even a generous compensation plan that make people want to join you. YOU are the most important element—your marketing methods and your leadership abilities.

Thus your primary aim should not be to make a sale or cajole people to join your business. No. such an attitude is often easy to see through, and it scares people; people don’t like to be sold.

They like to feel that a marketer has successfully identified their need and has a solution to that need. So start by positioning yourself as someone who knows more than most other marketers about a particular subject.

Only when you brand yourself as such a marketer will willing clients come begging you to register them into your business opportunity or to buy your products.

Now, you may not feel like a leader or anything. But if people must come to you, that is, if you are going to generate leads without losing your sleep everyday, then you have to look for ways to showcase what unique qualities or abilities you possess before your online clients.

You have to show your prospects why you are better or at least different from the hordes of other marketers out there in the online marketplace. What things make you to stand out? What solutions can you provide to common problems in MLM?

Branding yourself online need not be such a hard task. It all begins with determining what group of persons you are going to prospect, and identifying the needs of these prospective clients. After that, find ways to relate with these ones.

It could be as simple as commenting on their blogs or sending them useful newsletters. Speak as one genuinely interested in the success of your prospects.

Supply information that fill real needs. It’s been observed that by just knowing and doing a little bit more that most other marketers, this instantly puts you in a position of power and trustworthiness. And if the information you provide always prove useful to readers, they’ll keep coming back for more.

This is the key to generating sizeable leads everyday without really pitching any product or opportunity. And it happens that leads generated in this manner are often more responsive when you eventually decide to introduce a product or service. Such prospects often call you before you call them!

Self-branding is one aspect of your business that surely requires constant attention. It is the best way to prospect, and the easiest way to recruit. Project yourself both as a knowledgeable and a helpful business ally. Give constant value to your prospects. And watch them call you to inquire how they can be a part of what you’re doing.

Understanding Your MLM Customer

In any business, the better you understand your customers, the more responsive you can be to their needs. MLM is no different. The background information you’ve gathered about your customers enables you to improve customer service and market your business to them more effectively.

Such understanding also engenders customer loyalty, and ensures that you’ll be dealing with those who already have some knowledge of your products.

Before going on to itemize the specific gains derivable from knowing your customers, let us first examine ways you can get to identify who your customers are as well as what are their needs?

You want to begin by deciding what market niche you want to get involved in. This is partly a function of the products you’re marketing and your individual talents.

But one thing is sure; no matter what it is you are promoting, there are millions of persons out there who are seeking for solutions to different problems. Which will means that there will always be ways for you to help your potential customers.

Next, listen to what potential customers in that market are most concerned about. You should be interested in their worries, likes, and dislikes and disappointments.

What are their needs, and what is the competition offering at the moment? This is basically the easiest way you can identity your customers and how and what to market to them.

Having identified who your customers are, your next task is to fashion out ways to market to them. This should be easy since you already know their needs to a large extent. So build on that knowledge. Simply target them with appropriate offers, and be alert to cross-selling opportunities.

Encourage feedback, and always be responsive to customer enquiries. This last point is hugely important. It happens that we are more comfortable dealing with marketers of ANY products who’re ever ready to clarify issues pertaining to their products.

It is called after sales service. Big corporations know so well that this is often the determining factor between one-off sales and repeat patronage.

But most individual entrepreneurs are yet to fully appreciate the importance of after sales interactions. Many online hawkers are merely content with making a sale and disappearing ever after. I should know because I’ve severally been at the receiving end. And you can guess my response: I don’t patronize such marketers ever again.

On the other hand there are a few online marketers whose offers I find hard to resist, mainly because I know if any issues ever come up, they’ll be there to resolve it. Since this is the way we all want to be treated, you, my dear reader, should do that way to others. You’ll gain many loyal customers by being very responsive to their needs and inquiries.

What are the benefits? : They are many. When we know our customers and market to customers we already know, we have easier and faster access to information about these customers. This means we can respond better and faster to their needs.

And when errors do occur in the normal course of doing business, it’s easier to resolve these amicably. These will all lead to remarkable customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Moreover, dealing with customers we know also makes our targeting efforts easier. You can predict more accurately your customers’ needs and buying patterns. This serves two purposes: (1) it greatly reduces advert costs; (2) such tailored and personalized treatment of customers often shows that you value their business.

Again that brings customer satisfaction. Indeed there are many reasons why every marketer should make efforts to understand their customers. It can really help you to start building a relationship with each other.
