This is a great post and will help so many people. Thank you so much for sharing this wisdom. It really is all in your perception and what you expect.

I remember I think it was in “Think and Grow Rich” where a gentleman asked Clement Stone if he could give him some clients to call on. So the next day he went to his office and Mr. Stone gave him the names on index cards. The gentleman went out and made a lot of sales because he knew that the great Clement Stone had referred him.

Then he went back a few days later and asked for some more names as the ones he got before were working out so good. Mr. Stone said he didn’t have time, but told the gentleman he could; he said he could just write down some names from the phone book because that’s what he did.

Did he make any sales with those names? No because he had an expectation that he wouldn’t, where the time before when he THOUGHT Mr. Stone had put in a good word for him, he did.

So, I say all that to say, before you pick up the phone, EXPECT to make a sale and help that person. Say to yourself before you pick up the phone, I intend for this to go very well and to have great success.

For me, the key is to target people who are expecting my phone calls and not chase people who have absolutely no interest in joining my business or trying my products and you make a great point about not feeling like you have to know every single thing about your company or its products; it’s o.k. to say, “That’s a great question and I don’t know the answer at this moment; is it okay if I get back to you?” I think people will have more respect for you for saying that instead of coming up with some nonsense answer that has no basis in fact
