Can you really make money online? People everywhere are affected by the ongoing global recession. Businesses and jobs once considered solid are disappearing at alarming rates.

Outsourcing and downsizing are also combining to ensure that job prospects are diminishing by the day. Understandably, people everywhere are desperately searching for alternative sources of income. Majority of these are giving serious thoughts to either home business or online business, or both.

And you cannot blame them: the media is awash with stories and testimonies of individuals whose lives have been turned around by online businesses. Some have transited from a life of debts and tight budgets to one of fairly comfortable living. While a few claim to have attained a status of great financial wealth.

Can we put faith in any of these stories? Can one really make substantial income online? Absolutely! Listen, there is incredible, limitless income potential for you and your family if you know what you are doing online!

But is it going to be easy? Well, that’s another matter entirely. And let’s quickly tell you here that like everything else in life, online wealth is real, but you’re going to have to work for it.

That, to me, is reassuring rather than discouraging. Think of a business venture which does not require huge amount of capital to start; One in which both the person who barely finished high school and a college professor have equal opportunities to succeed; One in which you can work your own hours, and from your own home;

A business in which you could go on to command a seven-figure income without having a single paid staff. It’s only online that any and all of these can happen.

It’s true that many people fail in online businesses. But the major reason is that they never took the time to learn how to use the internet to run their business. The internet is the future of all businesses—virtually any business venture can be profitably carried on online these days.

But the entrepreneur will have to learn the tricks. A failure to effectively and profitably market on the internet often leads to a waste of time, efforts, and money.

Commitment and consistent action on the part of the online entrepreneur are also vital. A basic problem today is that most persons start online businesses with a baggage of unrealistic expectations.

They think only in terms of the financial rewards and freedom of time that success in online business would bring—and they want these rewards fast.

They may also have been told by some fast-talking “gurus” that all they needed to do was sign up for one online business or the other, work for five minutes a day for a week or so, and then afterward all they would need to do is check their mails for mouth-watering payments everyday for the rest of their lives! Interesting.

But how true? Whoever tells you that has his eyes on your wallet. Online business is none of that. The reality is that you are very likely to lose rather than make money in your first few months online. That is normal.

During this period, you are perfecting your acts. This is when you’ll need to stay determined. Remain patient and don’t be discouraged, all the while perfecting your skills by learning from good coaches. Soon, your business will gain momentum and the profits will begin to roll in.

I strongly believe that starting an online business is one of the easiest and quickest routes to financial freedom today. But it will take consistent action, focus, hard work and patience.
