Quality backlinks are among the most important requirements if you want to rank high on Google search engine. Backlinks, also known as INBOUND links, are among the indices used by Google to evaluate or indicate the quality of your website content.

Online marketing and MLM publishers know this all too well, and they employ various methods—both legitimate and illegitimate—to get Inbound Links.

What Exactly Are Backlinks? These are links in other online contents that are directed at your website. They are like “arrows” pointing readers to your website, or blog either suggesting to or informing them that similar or detailed information pertaining to a particular topic is available at your website.

What happens is, when lots of people link to your website, a search engine (Google for example) considers this as proof that your opinion or website content is highly respected.

This means that backlinks serve as a voting system in SEO. And by having many backlinks, it means people are voting for you!

Consequently, when people search for a particular topic or content area that appears on your website, your site will be one of those that’ll appear on the first page of the search result. So as far as Search Engine Results are concerned, Inbound Links are very important.

Now, there are both good and bad ways of getting quality backlinks. Realizing how important backlinks are to Google SEO, online marketers now engage in shady activities to get linked back.

Some go as far as paying other website owners to get backlinks from these. Google is aware of these tricks too, and they are presently considering ways of penalizing publishers who attempt to get backlinks in this manner.

Moreover, “purchased” backlinks often fail to achieve desired SEO results. The reason being that the, backlinks are not taken at their face value. Google now has a way of judging the quality of links found on a website.

What this means is that a website concerned with Car Leasing, for example, will not achieve a high SEO ranking through links to Dog Breeding websites (of course if you have any reason to feature an unrelated link on your website, make it plain that they’re purely for advert purposes. That is allowed, and it has nothing to do with SEO ranking).

For your backlinks to count as QUALITY inbound links, they have to come from RELEVANT websites or contents. A search engine will always consider the content of both sites to determine the quality of the links.

This is also a warning to those who unduly engage in what is called “reciprocal linking,” whereby two or more website owners (or even an individual owning several websites) practice link exchanges with the sole aim of boosting SEO ranking through inbound links.

Google frowns at this practice, even when the sites involved feature related contents. In fact Google’s latest Filter software has reciprocal links as its primary target.

So we should not be satisfied with merely getting backlinks; it is their quality that matter in SEO considerations. By choosing relevant websites to link with, especially those that don’t feature tons of outbound links on each page, you could still make the most of reciprocal links.

Moreover, you can increase your own website’s SEO ranking by constantly featuring valuable contents over a long period of time. This is both the natural and the best way to build credible backlinks.

When your web content is both informative and interesting to read, other webmasters and bloggers would rather link to your content than having to explain everything from scratch.

So really, backlinks are crucial to your SEO efforts. And if you give people something to link to, your backlinks will grow fast and naturally, without you having to resort to the mercenary approach.
