Bill Britt is a name that has become synonymous with Multi-Level Marketing success. Here’s one distributor whose image casts a huge shadow over the Amway Corporation, controlling anywhere from 30-50 percent of Amway’s distribution network.

In his 30 years with Amway, Bill has built what is easily the second most successful Amway distributorship in North America, and for that matter the whole world. His Amway team boasts over 2 million distributors.

Bill Britt’s success in the MLM industry is surely well deserved. The foundation for his MLM business was laid starting in the late 60s and early 70s. You could say that meant he basically employed traditional network marketing methods to build his business. And you would be right.

He mostly depended on Home Meetings, Hotel Meetings, Saturday Training and other Weekend Seminar Excursions—pretty much any approach that brings him and his distributors or clients face to face, and allows for intimate experience in learning the MLM techniques. And what grand success he achieved using those methods!

Oh, did we mention books, tapes, CDs, and other training materials? In the industry there are reported estimates that close to 95% of Bill Britt’s annual income, comes from sales of MLM tools. Over all, this guy has developed what is believed to be the largest and most profitable personnel development organization in the MLM industry.

There are many skills that person who is interested in building a network marketing business can learn from this superstar. True, his organization’s growth and profitability has begun to unravel in the last 15 years, at least in the United States (this maybe hurting Amway as well, remember he controls nearly 50% of Amway Corporation’s sales force).

This dip in fortune is mostly due to their delay in adopting modern MLM recruiting techniques. Even so, Bill is nothing short of an icon in the network marketing industry, his accomplishments in MLM surely deserve recognition. In my opinion, the following are some insights we can all gain from Bill Britt.

You need to establish good rapport with your clients, and demonstrate genuine, unpretentious commitment to their success. Network marketing, after all, is all about people helping people—motivating others so they can excel in their sales efforts. Indeed, this is the surest way you as a marketer can guarantee your long-term success in MLM.

Bill Britt has also demonstrated that we can keep our core values consistent with our marketing goals. Bill for example believes in free market, family values, and good government. It’s been said that he speaks more of these values at seminars than he does about his Amway network business.

In the end people get infected with his sincerity and begin to believe everything else he says—including his products and services! Isn’t this what attraction marketing is all about?

Bill has demonstrated that if you build your network marketing business on sound foundations, then your business’ financial possibilities are limitless. In order words, we should build our organizations with an eye on tomorrow, not immediate gains.

Moreover recent happenings at Amway and Bill’s own network organization should warn us that the network marketing methods of yesteryears can no longer deliver success today.

Their current travail is traceable to their delay in adopting internet resources, i.e. online lead generation and recruiting techniques. Need we say more if you expect to grow your MLM business today?

If you approach your network marketing business with the right motivation, the right expectation, and imitate legends like Bill Britt’s drive and work ethic for success, then there is no reason why you should not succeed in MLM.
